When former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones found fulfillment through scandalous extramarital affairs

Chipper Jones was an MLB legend and a star player on the field, but his scandulous extramarital affairs often put his personal life in jeopardy.

The former Atlanta Braves star found fulfillment in such affairs, though. As reported by GQ in 2008, about his extramarital affairs, Jones said:

“I was going to do what I wanted, no matter what, in order to make myself happy; everybody else around me be damned."

Jones was married to Karin Fulford when he confessed to his ex-wife about having a 18-month adulterous relationship with a Hooters waitress.

When the woman with whom he had an affair became pregnant, giving birth to a boy named Matthew in 1998, Chipper informed Fulford. Once the shocking information was made public, Jones' infidelity had a negative impact on his personal life.

In a 2017 interview with GQ, he spoke about it:

"You know, 1997 and ‘98 really taught me how to compartmentalize. I didn’t live a very peaceful life during the daytime. "From about 2 or 3 o’clock in the afternoon until midnight, I forgot about all that. I was almost as if baseball was therapy for me. It gave me 10 hours to get away from everything that was going on off field, and I could really concentrate on the on-field stuff. 1999 was just a crazy year."

Despite their best efforts to stay together, Chipper Jones and Karin Fulford split in January 2000.

When Chipper Jones was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2018, his ex-wife Karin wrote a lengthy Facebook post to express her appreciation:

"From my heart, I want to congratulate Chipper for making it into the Hall of Fame. He was an incredibly talented, passionate ball player. We had quite a ride together from the years in the minor leagues through injuries, the strike, the highs and lows, the best World Series ever … and all the rest."

She also talked about how her ex-husband's adultery caused her to experience acute sadness. When Fulford discovered that Chipper's baby was being carried by other women as she struggled to conceive, she was horrified, saying:

“I went to a place of deep grief, totally lost who I was and silenced my own pain. I just wanted to hold my marriage together, and I had to let go of my own intuition to do that.”

Fulford now helps others going through divorce "make the journey from helplessness to hope".
