In an August 2008 interview with GQ, former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones opened up about undergoing an emotional rollercoaster after meeting his son from an infamous tangle with an ex-Hooters waitress.

In 1988, Jones broke the news to his ex-wife Karin Fulford that he had fathered a child out of wedlock after an 18-month extramarital affair. There was already trouble in paradise, and the news of the love child only added fuel to the fire. Initially, the pair tried reconciling their differences but later decided that separation would be the best solution.

Jones scheduled to visit his 11-month-old son as soon as he settled into his own flat in downtown Atlanta.

"I was waiting in the hall outside of my apartment, and they got o the elevator. (Matthew’s mother) had his hand, and he waddled off. I started bawling. You talk about a shot of reality. Here I am, Mr. Johnny All-American. … It just drove home what needed to be done, and that was to do everything I could to make sure that I was there for him as much as possible whenever he needed me," reminisced Chipper Jones in 2014 while narrating the decades-old event.

Later, Jones requested the Fulton County court to formally recognize Matthew as his son two months after divorcing Karin. His divorce with Fulford was finalized in 2000, ending their eight-year-long marriage.

Right after his settlement with his first-wife Karin Fulford, former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones rushed into his second marriage with Sharon Logonov in March 2000.

However, 12 years later, the pair separated and finalized their divorce in November 2012. Logonov and Jones share three sons - Larry Wayne III (Trey), Tristen and Shea.

In 2015, the former MLB third baseman signed up for his third marriage with former Playboy model, Taylor Higgins. Taylor and Jones share two sons together, Curtis and Cooper.
