New York Yankees pitcher Frankie Montas is scheduled to undergo surgery on Feb. 21, placing him in danger of missing out on the entire 2023 season.

Frankie Montas joined the Yankees in August 2022, along with Lou Trivino, as part of a trade with the Oakland Athletics. JP Sears, Luis Medina, Ken Waldichuk and Cooper Bowman were the players traded to the A's in return.

Montas made his MLB debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2015.

Montas married his wife, Nicholette Snider Montas, in January 2019. Hailing from Arizona, Nicholette was born in 1996. The couple recently celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary. They started dating in 2014 and got engaged in March 2019. They are parents to two children: a son, Michael, and a daughter, Ellie.

MLB insider Joel Sherman shared the news of Montas' surgery on Wednesday:

''Frankie Montas will have shoulder surgery on 2/21, Aaron Boone said.''

It is too early to say when Montas will take the field for the Yankees once again. At the moment, the hope of a return in the second half of the season would be deemed optimistic. There is a good possibility that he might be sidelined for the entire 2023 MLB season.

The news comes as a big blow for the team — under new captain Aaron Judge — chasing their first World Series win since 2009. Montas was troubled with shoulder injuries in 2022 and was reportedly not up to full fitness due to a shoulder inflammation.
