On Friday, the New York Yankees called up their infield prospect Jorbit Vivas to fill up the spot left vacant after JD Davis was placed on the IL due to a stomach flu. However, fans reacted as Vivas was sent back down to the minor leagues two days later without maaling his MLB debut as he remained an unsued substitute on the bench the entire time.

Fans were not enthused by the decision from the Yankees front office as they shared their thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter

"Why bring him up in the first place?" one fan asked.

"You didn’t even give him an at bat," said another fan.

"So it was a call-up to just give him three days off?" questioned another fan.

A considerable portion of the tweets also called for misfiring shortstop Anthony Volpe to be optioned out instead of Jorbit Vivas.

"Send Volpe back too," a fan said.

"Peraza no chance, Vivas no chance, many other prospects no chance, but you let Volpe be one of the worst hitters in baseball," exclaimed another Yankee fan.

"Volpe needs to be optioned to Triple-A Scranton," said another fan.

Jorbit Vivas is the No. 15 prospect in the Yankees organization, according to MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old from Venezuela generally plays at second base, but he has been transitioned into a third baseman this year.

Vivas was acquired by the Yankees during this offseason along with relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez in the trade, which sent infield prospect Trey Sweeney to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, had hinted that, despite getting called up, Jorbit Vivas may not get much playing time on the field.

“He’s been swinging the bat really well the last few weeks. He’s played some third base down there, obviously, second base is his natural position. There could be a start for him this weekend, but no guarantees," Boone said on Friday.

The New York Yankees won a hotly contested series with the Baltimore Orioles heading into the All-Star break, which puts the two teams on a tie atop the American League East.

Jorbit Vivas will move back to the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, with whom he has a .258/.404/.424 slashline for the season with .828 OPS.

However, the switch-hitting infielder has a .333 batting average with a 1.113 OPS, including five home runs over his last 19 games, which is why he was called up to New York.

"He’s got some pop in the bat and can move well. He’s a good athlete. There were probably a few guys in consideration, and he’s the guy that’s definitely earned the right to be here,” Aaron Boone said.

“He doesn’t have a ton of experience. He doesn’t have a big left side of the diamond arm, but that said, I think he’s doing some really good things. His first step and athleticism should help him get to some balls. I think it’s a position that if he got regular reps at, I feel like the experience would serve him well,” he added.

The New York Yankees are still getting subpar offensive production from the infielders, so Jorbit Vivas might get another callup this season if the malaise continues.
