Will Aaron Judge cross 60 home runs in consecutive seasons?

Aaron Judge made history last season by crossing the 60 home run threshold. He also set the American League and New York Yankees franchise record in the process when he hit his 62nd long ball in the penultimate game of the season.

He now has high expectations going into 2023. He signed a nine-year, $360 million contract and fans will want a lot more home runs as a result. Can the slugger hit 60 again?

Can Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit 60 home runs again?

In theory, if Aaron Judge could hit 60 home runs in any season without any known steroid use, then sure, he could do it again. If someone does something once, then it is absolutely possible for them to do it again.

However, history is not on his side. In the entire history of baseball, there have only been nine seasons with 60 or more home runs. Only six players have ever done it, too.

Of those nine seasons, only Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa ever did it in back-to-back years. McGwire hit 70 in 1998 and 65 in 1999. Sosa smashed 66 in 1998 and 63 in 1999. He also hit 64 in 2001, but fell short in 2000 with 50 home runs.

The two also used steroids. McGwire admitted that he did and while Sosa denied it, reports confirmed that he tested positive in the early 2000s.

Yes, Aaron Judge could hit 60 home runs again, but that's not likely. Not only is it a high bar to clear even once, pitchers are now even more wary of giving him anything to hit. He'll get plenty of chances, but 60 seems out of the question this season.
