The LA Angels have made another notable offseason move by signing veteran pitcher Kyle Hendricks to a one-year $3 million contract. While he may be on the backend of his MLB career, the former World Series champion presents the Angels with a low-risk, affordable option heading into the 2025 campaign.
Although Hendricks could be a solid bounce back candidate for the Angels, he is coming off the worst season of his career. Over 130.2 innings, he posted a career-worst 5.92 ERA with a 4-12 record and 87 strikeouts. If he can fix the issues that plagued him in 2024, he could be a free agent bargain for the Angels.
Fans across the league are less than enthusiastic about the free agent move. While some questioned the decision of the LA Angels to bring Kyle Hendricks in, others were unsure of his decision to join the rebuilding team.
"Worst thing to happen in the past 24 hours," one fan posted.
"This is not what I needed to hear right now," another fan wrote.
"Damn going to LA but not the Dodgers is an unfortunate L," a fan commented.
Although the Angels will not be considered a contender next season unless they pull off some dramatic moves, Hendricks will have an opportunity in the starting rotation. However, some fans feel that the former Chicago Cubs World Series champion should have considered other career options instead of joining the Angels.
"I'd rather retire lol," a fan shared.
"No interest in winning I guess," another fan said.
"Good luck with that one," one more wrote.
Kyle Hendricks now joins Jorge Soler as the Angels retool their roster
While the offseason may have only just begun, the LA Angels have wasted little time in trying to improve their roster. After posting a disappointing 63-99 record, they have already started to make moves ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Earlier this offseason, the Angels made a series of trades that landed them former World Series MVP Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves, as well as former top prospect Scott Kingery from the Philadelphia Phillies. They also claimed Ryan Noda from waivers.
It will be an interesting season ahead for the Angels, not only because the club has already added several new faces, but also with the news that Mike Trout could change his defensive position to stay healthy. It remains to be seen what version of the Angels we will see in 2025.
