Jorge Carlos Soler Castillo is a Cuban professional baseball player in Major Leagues Baseball. He was born in Havana, Cuba, on February 25, 1992, but he defected from the country in 2011. Jorge plays the position of a designated hitter and outfielder in the MLB. He is also known by his nickname El Crudo.


Jorge had played in the Cuban National Baseball team and was part of the 2010 Juniors World Series Championship. After defecting and coming to America, he was signed by the Chicago Cubs in 2012. Jorge debuted his MLB career in 2014 with the Cubs. Since then Jorge has been with three more teams, Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves, and is currently playing for the Miami Marlins. Jorge has earned quite a lot of accolades and awards to his name. He was an All-Star in 2023 and two-time World Series Champion. He was also the World Series MVP in 2021.

Jorge Soler’s Early Life

Jorge Soler was born on February 25, 1992, in Havana, Cuba. He used to play for the Cuban National Baseball Team and even participated in the 2010 World Junior Championship for the Cuban team. Back then, his OBP was .500, he had an SLG of .522 and his batting average was .304.


However, he defected from Cuba in 2011 to play for the Major Leagues. After he defected, he went to Haiti and took up residence there. It was in 2012 that he became a free agent, which resulted in him signing with the Chicago Cubs in 2012. He played for the Minor Leagues from 2012 to 2014 for teams such as AZL Cubs, Peoria Chiefs, Daytona Cubs, Tennessee Smokies, and Iowa Cubs.


In 2013, while playing for Dayton Cubs, he got into an altercation during a game against Clearwater Threshers that resulted in clearing benches. He has wielded a bat against the opposing team. He was punished for the incident by being fined and getting a five-game suspension. During his time with his last team in the Minor Leagues, he had a total of 22 RBIs, .415/.494/.862, batting average and six home runs to his name.
