Jasson Dominguez is reportedly going to join the New York Yankees during Spring Training. Over the years, the Yankees have amassed a few prospects that they are essentially refuse to trade for anyone. For a while, Estevan Florial was that. Now, it's Anthony Volpe and Dominguez.
Dominguez has been with the Yankees since he was 16 but hasn't made any major league appearances at all. Now, with him poised to play against at least AAA players as well as MLB stars, fans are excited to see what he has to offer.
Dominguez is just barely 20, so he still has time to grow, but he's reaching the age when the stars he was predicted to join were at least borderline MLB-ready. With his first real test on deck, he'll show whether or not he is.
Either way, fans are excited to finally get a good look at the player they've been waiting for.
The Yankees do have a hole in left field. GM Brian Cashman maintains that Aaron Hicks is a fine option and Oswaldo Cabrera had an excellent season in the outfield last year, albeit very brief.
Neither of those options feel very long term out there, but Jasson Dominguez is the prince who was promised. The Yankees typically don't do this but if he blows everyone away during the spring, they'll be hard-pressed not to bring him up to fill that outfield hole.
This could also go poorly for the Yankees. If Dominguez doesn't pan out, all the trades they could have done or declined to do to keep Dominguez will come into full focus.
The New York Yankees need Jasson Dominguez soon
The New York Yankees need to do something to turn the tide against the suddenly dynastic Houston Astros. They can spend on free agents all day long, but they need a young, long term superstar to fill a need.
That's Jasson Dominguez. Whether it's now or in the next couple of years, the Yankees desperately need Domonguez to turn out to be exactly what they thought he could be when they signed him.
That's a lot to place on the shoulders of a barely 20-year-old prospect, but it's the reality the team currently finds itself in.
