The Cubs acquired Kyle Tucker, who is on his walk year, from the Astros on Dec. 13, 2024, in a trade that sent Isaac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski, and prospect Cam Smith to Houston. While many believe the trade will have a negative impact in the future, Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said he was not as worried.

The Cubs currently lead the National League Central division and Tucker and Pete Crow-Armstrong have been exceptional for them. However, Tucker's long-term future with the Cubs is still not clear.

On Tuesday's episode of "The Show," hosted by veteran MLB insiders Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman, Jed Hoyer was asked to share his feelings about trading for Tucker.

"The Yankees are having a really good season this year," Hoyer said [from 32:57]. "They didn't sign Juan Soto, and they gave up a lot to go get Juan Soto. Is that trade worth it? I think that's something that can be debated. Obviously, they had an exceptional season last year, so I just think you can't really answer that question on June 9th."

The Yankees acquired Soto on his walk year and Trent Grisham from the San Diego Padres on Dec. 6, 2023, sending away Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez, and Kyle Higashioka. Soto's stay at the Yankees was short-lived as he signed a blockbuster $765,000,000 contract in free agency with the Mets in 2024.

Soto has not had a stellar campaign with the Mets in his debut season though the team tops the National League East standings. On the other hand, the Yankees acquired Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt and others in the offseason and sit atop the American League East division.

Jed Hoyer shares thoughts on Kyle Tucker's performance with the Cubs

Kyle Tucker will probably be the most sought-after free agent after the end of the current season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was also set to be in the same class but he signed a $500,000,000 extension with the Toronto Blue Jays in April.

Cubs president Jed Hoyer was asked how he feels about Tucker's performance with the franchise on "The Show," and he only had great things to say about "King Tuck."

"I mean, as a player, he's been exactly what we thought he was, which is just, he's an exceptional hitter. Like, truly. He’s plate discipline, power, batting average. You know, he's an excellent base runner. I mean, he's just an excellent offensive player. He's been terrific for us and really changed our lineup in so many ways," Hoyer said [20:33].

Hoyer admitted that they gave up a lot to get him but mentioned their intent to keep him long term. He refused to speak about in-house conversations. Hoyer knows Kyle Tucker will have options after the season ends and as such believes the best pitch would be to show a winning team.
