MLB pitchers are tasked with recording outs, and usually, the best way to do that is via strikeouts. If they can do that, they've retired the hitter without requiring any defensive help. Predicting how many times they'll do that is difficult, and it depends on a variety of factors. To that end, we've got the best picks to look at from DraftKings today (Sept. 4). Yesterday, three of the five picks hit.
Best MLB strikeout prop bets Sept. 4
5) Charlie Morton: Over 6.5 -145
Charlie Morton has pitched well this season, and he's been solid in the strikeout department. He's striking out 24% of batters faced and averages just over one per inning pitched. Today, he's up against the dismal Colorado Rockies (outside of Coors Field), so he's a great pick to hit the over.
4) Bobby Miller: Under 5.5 -150
Bobby Miller is having a disastrous season, and part of that is due to a lack of strikeouts. He sports a 20.1% K rate and an 8.06 K/9 — those numbers are not inspiring. Even though he's facing the Los Angeles Angels, a poor offense, take the under.
3) Shota Imanaga: Under 6.5 -155
Shota Imanaga is striking out one out of every four batters he faces. That translates to a 9.10 K/9 in his rookie season. Today, the Chicago Cubs ace gets to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team without a dominant offense, but the line is high. Take the under.
2) Zac Gallen: Over 5.5 -170 (safest pick of the day)
Zac Gallen sports a 23% K rate and a slightly below-average 8.78 K/9. Despite that, he's the safest pick today. The Arizona Diamondbacks ace is up against the mediocre San Francisco Giants and has a lower line, so take the over with confidence.
1) Sonny Gray: Over 6.5 +100 (bold prediction of the day)
Sonny Gray is today's bold prediction. The St. Louis Cardinals star boasts an impressive 30% strikeout rate, but he is facing the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers. The odds are stronger that he won't reach seven strikeouts, but that is why it's a bold pick.
