San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove will miss the beginning of the 2023 season after suffering a freak injury. The 30-year old right hander apprently suffered a broken toe after dropping an exercise weight on his foot during a spring training workout.

The injury represents a massive blow to the viability of the San Diego Padres' pitching rotation. Musgrove had a career season in 2022, hurling 181 innings over 30 starts and finished the season with a record of 10-7, with an ERA of 2.93 and 184 strikeouts.

However, the Padres, and Musgrove himself, are reeling from this unforeseen (and painful) alteration to the lineup. Fans have already started posting memes on Twitter poking fun at the unorthodox incident.

Here are some of the Tweets that are gaining the most traffic on the back of Joe Musgrove's unfortunate accident.

"Toe Musgrove" - @ A. Mazon
"Who in the weight room dropped a dumbbell on Joe Musgrove’s toe?" - @ Only Padres
"Live Look: Joe Musgrove receiving treatment on busted toe" - @ POD AT THE PARK
"Joe Musgrove broken toe a day after Machado signs a mega extension, let it begin" - @ B
"Joe musgrove" - @ b_ried
"At least Joe Musgrove’s ears are okay. We all know without them he’d never have success." - @ Thehoch
"Looks like Musgrove’s season will be starting on the wrong foot" - @ Prince of Potassium Joey

Joe Musgrove set to be sidelined for two months

According to MLB insider Bill Nightengale, it might take atleast two weeks before the pitcher can be considered fit to throw.

The duration of the injury will surely be music to the ears of Padres' fans, who have enough firepower in their squad to offset Musgrove's loss in the pitching department.
