Jose Altuve greets a young fan with signed jersey and baseball

Houston Astros' second baseman Jose Altuve made a young boy's day, who was wearing his No. 27 jersey. Sports reporter Ari Alexander captured the heartfelt moment and shared it on X (formerly Twitter).

In the video, Altuve was seen having a nice little chat with the young boy and signed a baseball for him. He then also asked his teammate Jeremy Pena for his autograph on the ball. Altuve also signed his jersey and posed for photos with him.

It's not uncommon for Altuve to make his fans happy. There have been numerous instances when he has rewarded fans with his autographed bats, gloves and sometimes even his game jersey.

Maybe this is one of the reasons why Jose Altuve is revered so much in Houston. It could also be one reason why the club signed him to a record five-year, $125 million extension to keep the fan favorite at home until at least the 2029 season.

Astros diehard fan receives Jose Altuve's game-day cleats

Earlier this February, when the Astros were in CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches to train for the 2024 season, longtime Astros fan Donna Hopkins received Jose Altuve's pair of cleats.

“I said, ‘If you’ve got to get rid of them, I’ll take them,’ and he just took them off and gave them to me,” said Donna (via MLB.com). “It pays to be a familiar face.”

Donna and her husband, Jimmy, both retired teachers, have a house full of Astros memorabilia, which they have accumulated through their constant presence at Astros' spring training games and some from Minute Maid Park.

Donna also mentions how Altuve has become one of her favorites.

“He’s always very nice and stops and talks and chats and this is just something really special,” she said.

More so, Donna was excited when the Astros extended their All-Star second baseman to a five-year extension.

“He’s a really special person to me and I’m so glad he signed that contract because I want him to be here for life,” Donna said. “My hope is I’m alive when he goes to the Hall of Fame because I want to go see that.”

It doesn't matter how many more World Series (he's got two already!) he will help win the Astros before he retires but he surely has left a lasting legacy on Houston fans and his gestures are proof of that.
