Yankees rookie sensation Tayler Aguilar might give Aaron Judge 'hair-raising' competition in right field after rocket throw

Championship Series - Houston Astros v New York Yankees - Game Four
Could Tayler Aguilar compete with Aaron Judge?

Tayler Aguilar has taken the New York Yankees Spring Training by storm. Though right field is a locked-down position for the Yankees (Aaron Judge has held the position since 2017), Aguilar appears poised to make a run for an outfield spot.

This was evidenced by an otherworldly throw that Aguilar made during spring training. During the eighth inning, Aguilar protected the lead with a stunning laser to prevent the tying run from scoring.

A flyball was sent out to the mid-right field. Aguilar settled under it, caught it, and fired home as the tying run tagged up from third. The throw was as perfect as it could be, coming into the catcher's mitt up the third base line at the perfect height for tagging.

The out was made and the Yankees preserved their lead and won. Even better for Tayler Aguilar, the outfielder drove in two runs earlier in the game. It was a stunning game for the prospect all around.

Aguilar was the hero there and the Yankees earned a win because of him. That kind of thing may not matter as much in the spring, but it's hard to ignore the good offensive production and the stunning defense on display.

Spring Training is about finding out which players can play where and who might be ready for the big leagues, so this was an important showcase for Tayler Aguilar.

Will Tayler Aguilar make the Yankees MLB roster?

Though he performed well in the game, Tayler Aguilar is a long shot to make the Yankees roster. He's not listed within their top 30 prospects, so most don't consider him a future MLB player.

He could wow the Yankees all the way through spring, but that's unlikely. Even with a spot open in left field, the Bronx Bombers are unlikely to try out such an unproven commodity.

Oswaldo Cabrera, who also had some stunning outfield assists last season, will likely play there if anyone. Aguilar is thus likely to spend his days in the minor leagues once again.

However, this throw certainly has people's attention, so he might be able to make a run at something.
