A technical foul is one where no physical contact place between players during a play on the court but is rather called for behavior or actions when the ball is out of play. One of the most frequent technical fouls is for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The game has evolved in such a way that there is a major difference in technical fouls now and the one in the mid-90s. The NBA officiating has become strict which does not allow players to get away with things. Dissent and unsportsmanlike conduct accumulated by players have seen them ejected from the contest immediately.

The likes of Draymond Green and Russell Westbrook have a history with technical fouls while the likes of Vince Carter and LaMarcus Aldridge have never been cautioned by the referees this term. That being said, we look at the five players with the most technical fouls this season.

#5 DeMar DeRozan - 11

To say it's been a frustrating season for the San Antonio Spurs would be an understatement. They are currently 11th in the league with a 26-34 record and are 3.5 games behind the eighth seed Memphis Grizzlies. After making the postseason for 22 straight seasons, it looks like the streak is going to come to an end this campaign.

One of their star performers has been DeMar DeRozan. The forward is averaging 22.2 points, 5.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game this season while shooting nearly 53% from the field. Along with LaMarcus Aldridge, the forward is leading the way for Gregg Popovich and co.

After matching his technical fouls count of last season's tally of 11, DeRozan is hoping to avoid anymore as the Spurs continue to try to sneak into the eighth seed and enter the postseason.

#4 Marcus Morris Sr. - 12

Having signed with the Los Angeles Clippers from the New York Knicks, Marcus Morris Sr. is yet to identify his role in the team. The forward is averaging 18 points and 5.2 rebounds this season while shooting nearly 42% from beyond the arc. His defensive ability is just a bonus for the Clippers.

Morris has always had issues with discipline and commented earlier on in the season during a scuffle with the Jae Crowder of the Memphis Grizzlies where he said Crowder played with "female tendencies". This resulted in him being fined $35,000 by the league.

He has accumulated 12 technical fouls this campaign with most of them coming for the New York Knicks. It is this exact mentality that attracted the Clippers to trade for him.

#3 Kyle Lowry - 12

One of the main figures in the Toronto Raptors set up, Kyle Lowry is having a decent season so far. On the back of winning the championship last season, Lowry has been the leader in the team especially after the departure of Kawhi Leonard.

The guard is averaging 19.4 points, 7.6 assists, and 4.8 rebounds while shooting nearly 35% from range. His presence on the court for the franchise brings a sense of calm and is a vital piece in the Raptors' puzzle as they look to defend their championship.

Lowry has racked up 12 technical fouls this season and is master in drawing charges. But often that lands him in hot water as the dissent followed could lead to technical fouls.

#2 Draymond Green - 14

One of the elite defenders in the game, Draymond Green is having a quiet season just like his employers the Golden State Warriors. The franchise is languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 14-48 record with superstars Steph Curry playing just four games and Klay Thompson still recovering from the ACL injury he picked up during the finals last year.

Green is averaging 8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists this season while shooting nearly 39% from the field. His discipline has always been an issue and he was nearly suspended for game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors last year. The forward was also suspended for the game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers as the Warriors went on to blow a 3-1 lead to LeBron James and co.

#1 Russell Westbrook - 14

One of the fiercest competitors to play in the NBA, Russell Westbrook gives it all during the game. His commitment can never be questioned and he is one of those players who shows up every night regardless of the opposition.

Reunited with James Harden, Westbrook is having a tremendous campaign for the Houston Rockets. He is averaging 27.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.1 assists while shooting over 47% from the field and has been the main figure of the team in the last two-three months. His jump shot continues to be a concern but with the way he's been playing for the Rockets especially after the franchise decided to go small ball, it isn't that big of an issue for Mike D'Antoni and co.

The guard picked up his 14th technical foul of the season against the Memphis Grizzlies and is now just two infractions away from serving a one-game suspension.
