Asian Games 2018 Beach Volleyball

Originating in Hawaii, beach volleyball took over the United States during the 1930s and has been in vogue ever since.


Although inclusion of beach volleyball in the Asian Games became imminent long back; nevertheless it made it to the list of events at the Asian Games only in the 1998 edition and has sustained it’s position so far.


Venue and Schedule

The Beach Volleyball Competition at the 2018 Asian Games will commence from August 19th of 2018 for both men and women at JSC Beach Volley Arena, Palembang. The Competition will last for a span of 9 days, the finals enclosing the event on 28th August.

Events

Following the norms of preceding years, the Beach Volleyball Competition, prorated into events for men and women, will encompass a preliminary round and a single elimination phase prior to the quarterfinals.


A total of maximum sixteen teams will advance to the 2nd phase of single elimination, depending on the exact number of pools in the preliminary phase. The “round of 16” will be played in single elimination format of 16-team-bracket to qualify the 8 teams for the quarter finals, followed by the semi-finals and the finals.


2018 Asian Games Beach Volleyball Teams

The volleyball competition will feature the best men’s and women’s teams from across Asia.

Top international teams are competing in the event, engaging and inspiring athletes, fans and the media throughout the back-to-back matches.


Including the host Indonesia, the men’s volleyball competition will feature 20 teams, viz, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam

While the women’s volleyball competition will embrace 11 teams, namely, Indonesia (host), China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Kazakhstan, Japan Philippines, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

Defending Beach Volleyball Asian Games Champions

At the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon, China took over the sport with an astounding total of 4 medals which included one gold, one silver and two bronze. This isn’t the first time China got off the charts with their brilliant performance; rather they have been showcasing a prodigious play, maintaining their title since the inception of the sport with a synopsis of 16 medals (7 golds, 5 silvers, 4 bronzes). With a performance as radiant as this, China plans on defending it’s position in the 2018 Asian Games as well.


Favorites for 2018 Asian Games Beach Volleyball

Although the lead maintained by China in beach volleyball is unparalleled, Japan has ascended its efficacy, soaring up the chart with a synopsis of 6 medals.


Kazakhstan and Thailand are also emerging as healthy contenders to China since the 17th edition of the Asian Games at Incheon with Kazakhstan defeating China in men’s while China seized the gold in an epic clash with Thailand in the women’s competition.


All the four nations have their eye pinned on the gold and will be the favorites to be crowned the winners at this Asian Games.
