Kenny Brooks, born on December 20, 1968, is one of the top American college basketball coaches who signed a five-year contract with the Kentucky Wildcats in the summer of 2024. After spending eight seasons with the Virginia Tech Hokies, Brooks has been hired as the new head coach in Lexington on a $7.7 million contract. He led the Hokies to an ACC Tournament title in 2023 and also marked his 500th career win with the program.

Kenny Brooks Coaching History

Brooks's coaching journey began as an assistant coach at Virginia Military Institute, followed by stints at James Madison for the women's and men’s basketball teams. In December 2002, he was named interim coach of James Madison women’s basketball before taking a full-time role on March 21, 2003.

Brooks remained at JMU for 14 successful seasons and was named CAA Coach of the Year for a fourth time during his final season. Brooks compiled an overall record of 337-122, making him the winningest coach in the program’s history. In 2016, he joined Virginia Tech and helped the program to their first ACC tournament championship in 2023. Under his leadership, the Hokies enjoyed eight consecutive winning seasons and made four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. However, following the conclusion of the 2023-24 regular season, Brooks transferred to Kentucky after serving eight seasons as the head coach of the Hokies women’s basketball team.
