Curry started her coaching journey with coaching stints at Weston and Mansfield High Schools in her home state of Louisiana. She quickly moved to college the ranks and began her first assistant coaching role at Tulane University in 1991. After spending two seasons with the program, Curry spent one year as an assistant at Stephen F. Austin, and two years at Texas A&M. She returned to her home state to work under Leon Barmore at Louisiana Tech for three years.

Kristy Curry's head coaching journey started in 1999 when she took over the Purdue women’s basketball program. During her career with the Boilermakers, she won three Big Ten Tournament and two Big Ten regular season championships. She compiled a 179-51 record at Purdue and led the team to seven consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament. In 2006, Curry began her tenure as the head coach at Texas Tech University where she would go on to spend the next seven years. She posted a record of 130-98 while also guiding the Lady Raiders to two NCAA tournament appearances. However, following the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season, Curry was signed as the head coach at Alabama, a position which she has been holding for the past 11 years. In October 2024, Curry signed a contract extension that would keep her with the program until 2029.
