The NCAA March Madness is another term that is used to refer to the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament held every year. This is a tournament that uses the single elimination format to determine the NCAA basketball championship for the year. First started in 1939, the tournament is held mostly around mid March to early April and involves 68 teams participating to become the champion.

The tournament begins by the champion teams of the 32 conferences and 36 wild card teams who are selected through an event called “Selection Sunday.” After this, they are divided in four regions and seeded accordingly between 1 to 16. The tournament takes place throughout three straight weeks. Firstly, eight teams compete in the First Four. Then, four winners from these go on to compete in the first and second rounds. The second weekend comprises the regional semifinals, the Sweet Sixteen and finals, the Elite Eight. The Final Four takes place in the third weekend in the national semifinal. Finally, the last standing team is declared as the national champions for the year.

The 2024 March Madness will also follow the same format to determine the national championship for the year.
