Nate Oats is the head coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team. Oats began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Maranatha Baptist from 1997 to 2000 and joined Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he gained experience as an assistant coach from 2000 to 2002. Oats became the head coach at Romulus High School in Michigan from 2002 to 2013, where he won a state title in 2013 with a 222-52 overall record. In 2013, he was an assistant coach at Buffalo before transitioning as the head coach in 2015. Oats guided the Bulls to a 96-43 record in his four-year tenure and qualified for the NCAA Tournament thrice. In 2019, he became the head coach at Alabama, where Oats led Alabama to numerous NCAA Tournament qualifications, including the school's first-ever Final Four in 2024.

Nate Oats had a remarkable coaching career at both Buffalo and Alabama. Oats guided the Bulls to three MAC Tournament championships in 2016, 2018, and 2019. He also led them to two MAC regular-season titles, including MAC East Division championships in 2018 and 2019. After joining Alabama, Oats led the Crimson Tide to the SEC regular-season and tournament championships in 2021 and 2023. His success earned him numerous coaching awards, such as the MAC Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019 and the SEC Coach of the Year in 2021. Oats won 25 games in the 2023-2024 season and won against teams like Charleston, Grand Canyon, North Carolina, and Clemson before losing to UConn in the NCAA semifinals.
