UConn coach Dan Hurley and his staff managed to bring in four transfers during this offseason to reshape their roster after losing seven players. IU Indianapolis veteran guard Alec Millender is the latest to commit to the Huskies.
Millender arrived at Storrs on Sunday to start summer workouts with the team. UConn began its first offseason practice last week with most of its players back in town.
The program's X account posted a video of the 6-foot-1 senior arriving at the Werth Family Champions Center, and it included a message from Millender himself to UConn fans.
"Ready to get to work — man, happy to be here," he said. "I just hopped on the plane this evening and got in a little bit late tonight ... I came to the locker room and seen my locker for the first time. It's just a blessing to be here. I'm excited, man. I got in the gym a little bit and shot around.
"Man, I'm just really excited to get with the guys, play in front of Husky Nation — I can't wait. I just want to bring that energy, that liveliness, every day — to the team, to the fans, to the world."
Dan Hurley is hoping Millender can provide valuable leadership on and off the court after playing five years of college basketball, including last year with the Jaguars, where he averaged 8.2 points and 3.7 assists per game.
Prior to his lone season at IU Indianapolis, the Chicago native spent three years at Division II Wayne State.
Dwayne Koroma excited to play for UConn and coach Dan Hurley
Another of Dan Hurley’s transfers, Dwayne Koroma, arrived in Connecticut on Friday to begin practice with the Huskies. Koroma, a 6-foot-8 forward who played at Le Moyne last season, said to UConn fans that he is ready for Hurley's system.
"I just drove down here this morning, just moved my stuff in, and I'm in the facility" Koroma said in a video posted to the program's Instagram. "I'm looking forward to getting to work with the guys, getting to know them on and off the court and just being around this environment."
Koroma, who averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last season at Le Moyne, will be another veteran presence for Hurley's Huskies, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season that ended 24-11.
