The University of Connecticut is home to the intercollegiate men's basketball team known as the UConn Huskies men's basketball program. They currently play in the Big East Conference under the direction of Dan Hurley.


The Huskies are tied with Duke and Indiana for fourth place all-time in terms of NCAA tournament titles won: 1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, and 2023. With seven Big East tournament titles, the Huskies are second only to Georgetown (8). Along with 10 Big East regular season titles, the Huskies also own one American Athletic Conference championship title.


Many former UConn players, such as Clifford Robinson, Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton, Caron Butler, Ben Gordon, Emeka Okafor, Rudy Gay, and Charlie Villanueva, among others, went on to have successful careers in the professional ranks. The Huskies have made 36 appearances in the NCAA tournament and have taken part in six NCAA Final Fours.

Dan Hurley, born January 16, 1973, is the head coach of the University of Connecticut men's basketball team. Most recently, he led the UConn Huskies to the NCAA Championship in 2023.


Hurley excelled in basketball at Jersey City's St. Anthony High School, where his father had been the coach for many years. As a senior, he guided the team to a 31-1 record and the No. 2 spot in the country rankings. He attended Seton Hall for five years of college basketball, one of which was a redshirt year. P. J. Carlesimo served as his head coach for his first three seasons.


Hurley transitioned to coaching in 1996–97 with St. Anthony HS as an assistant coach and held a similar position at the Rutgers in 1997–2001. He took over as head coach of St. Benedict's Prep for the first time in 2001 and is recognized for establishing the school as one of the best high school basketball programs in America by 2010.


Hurley took over as UConn's head coach on March 22, 2018. He took the Huskies back to the NCAA tournament in 2021 for the first time since 2016, and he did it again in 2022, both times with a first-round loss. In 2023, he and the Huskies won the NCAA title, and by June 2023, he had signed an extension contract for six years worth $32.1 million.

Associate Head Coach

Kimani Young joined Dan Hurley's coaching staff at UConn in April 2018 and became an associate head coach in September 2020.


Young is primarily focused on coaching the Huskies' perimeter players and has already assisted five players in earning all-conference status. He also oversees recruiting, practice scheduling, and game strategy, and has also contributed to UConn's three straight Top 20 recruiting classes.


Assistant Coaches

After working with Dan Hurley at the University of Rhode Island during the 2017–18 season and at UConn for the previous four seasons, Tom Moore is currently in his sixth season as an assistant coach on Hurley's staff.


Prior to this, Moore worked for Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun for 13 years at UConn, the final two of those years as associate head coach. His experience and familiarity with UConn were quite helpful when Hurley transferred to the Storrs in the 2018–19 season.


Luke Murray joined Coach Dan Hurley's staff in April 2021 and is currently in his second season as an assistant coach. He has helped the Huskies secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the 2021–2022 season.


Prior to joining UConn, Murray spent three years as an assistant coach at Louisville. He has 14 years of experience at six different colleges and has worked under Coach Hurley at both Wagner and Rhode Island universities.
