Summer can get very hot down south, but legendary South Carolina coach Dawn Staley is already on top of the situation. On Thursday, the Gamecocks coach showed off "the most useful gift ever" in an Instagram post, and it is a handheld electric fan that would be sure to be useful during summer.

While Dawn Staley is bracing for the summer, she is also quite busy recruiting in the various AAU circuits all over the country. With summer being expected to reach record temperatures in parts of the country, that handheld electric fan might come in handy whenever she is out on the road and looking for the next big Gamecocks recruit.

The legendary coach is fresh off another deep run into the NCAA national tournament, reaching the finals but not winning it this time, with the Gamecocks falling to the UConn Huskies last April. However, Dawn Staley is on a constant grind and was spotted in various high school games and AAU events and watching the girls she has been trying to recruit.

Under Staley, the Gamecocks finished with a 35-4 overall record and was 15-1 in the SEC, being the No. 1-seeded team in the SEC, even though they were tied with Texas in the win-loss column. The Gamecocks entered March Madness as a No. 1 seed but failed to repeat last year's national title success in the end.

Former USA Basketball head coach Tara VanDerveer inspired Dawn Staley, she revealed in her new book

In May, Dawn Staley released a new book titled "Uncommon Favor," in which she talked about not just her life experiences, but also her passions. In that book, she revealed how she was inspired by her former coach when she played for USA Basketball in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

The legendary basketball coach opened up about how her 1996 Team USA coach, Tara VanDerveer, inspired her to be who she is today. She described VanDerveer's coaching as "calculating, methodical, manipulative, even," and admitted that she thinks her old coach is a "genius" and a "savant." Staley also admitted she still uses some of the things she learned from VanDerveer to this day.

"My thinking was, if these young women do half of this, we're goin to be in pretty darn good shape," Staley wrote in her book.

Under Tara VanDerveer, the United States won an Olympic gold medal on its home soil, and it was one of the highlights of Dawn Staley's basketball career.
