The news of Nick Saban's retirement left the football world in a frenzy, including Jalen Milroe. While fans were concerned about the future of the program, many Crimson Tide players like Isaiah Bond and Caleb Downs jumped ships and entered the transfer portal.
During an interview on the show called "CBS Morning," Alabama QB Jalen Milroe talked about his initial reaction to the news of Nick Saban's retirement on Jan. 11, 2024:
“I would say it was awesome. It was crazy,” Milroe said. “Initially, to see the retirement, Coach Saban’s the greatest coach of all time and he recruited me to Alabama. So to have the years, three years, being around someone, to now the retirement, it was wild for us, as a whole. But when you talk about life after football, you’ve got to talk about life after coaching."

"So what a great opportunity for him to now step into a different role as a head coach now getting into what he’s doing now. That’s awesome for him. … That’s his passion, his drive, so I’m a supporter of that. But the transition has been awesome with having Coach DeBoer just lead us and just getting to know him.”
Nick Saban made Alabama one of the greatest programs in the nation. During his 17-year tenure, the program produced 133 NFL draft picks.
In 2024, Alabama is the program with the most players in the NFL (77), followed by a tie between LSU and Ohio State (64). Under his legacy, the Crimson Tide secured six national championships and nine SEC titles, along with a plethora of other achievements.
When Nick Saban berated AJ McCarron during heated matchup against Mississippi State
Coach Saban is wildly known for his anger outbursts and "a** chewings" as a coach. Many players and even coaches have shared their experiences of facing Saban's wrath.
One of the most popular examples of Nick Saban's passionate coaching style was when he spanked AJ McCarron, Alabama's redshirt freshman at the time, for throwing an ill-advised pass against Mississippi State.
When asked about the incident later, Saban simply said he didn't think anything was wrong with it and that football is for tough people.
Fans will be interested to see if Kalen DeBoer is able to match coach Saban's level of success at Alabama.
