Chris Pratt is arguably the most successful amongst the top four Chrises of Hollywood. But there’s one other thing he possesses besides starring in most Billion Dollar movies: a relationship with veteran actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Being married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, Chris Pratt is the son-in-law of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Lately, the Terminator actor has been very proud of Pratt’s performance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But there’s one ability of Pratt that irritated Schwarzenegger.

Apparently, Chris Pratt wasn’t into playing chess at first, but as soon as he began, he got so good at it that he started to beat Schwarzenegger, who had been playing the game for a long time. So, just as Pratt began to win constantly, his father-in-law started to get annoyed.

While speaking with ExtraTV, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed how he was impressed with Pratt’s ability to learn things quickly. He said:

“In all fairness, I am a mediocre chess player … It is just that Chris Pratt has just begun playing chess, but he’s very, very focused. He’s very, very smart, and he’s a quick, quick learner. I think he’s extraordinary. I was in the middle of a game, almost losing the game, so I had to stay focused. I had to visualise myself as the winner. I said, ‘Please, can you leave right now? I’m about to lose!'”

It’s a fun banter between the Predator actor and The Tomorrow War star. While Schwarzenegger stated that Pratt had begun to win, the latter had previously revealed how he had never once won against him. But he did love to spend time playing chess with his father-in-law.

The bond between the two has gotten stronger as after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 came out, Schwarzenegger took to Twitter to praise Pratt’s performance. Unfortunately, Peter Quill has retired from the Guardians team, but that was a blessing in disguise because he came back to Earth.

The ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reunited Peter Quill with his grandfather on Earth. Then the film ended with the white screen stating, “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.” It is possible that Star-Lord would get a solo movie, and “The Legendary Star-Lord” would be its title. But the real reason Quill was sent to Earth was so he could appear in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

The lineup of Avengers 5 isn’t confirmed yet, but with Thor and Doctor Strange being off-world, the Avengers roster will need some big-name characters (and actors). With Star-Lord being in the mix, not only will the team get a character with a lot of intergalactic leadership experience, but it will also get an actor that has starred in four different Billion Dollar movies outside the MCU.

So, even though the old Guardians team is gone, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord has a bright future in the MCU.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
