A good wicketkeeper plays an integral role in improving a bowler's wickets tally and similarly, a set of good bowlers help improve a wicket keeper's dismissal counts.
Over the years there have numerous bowler-keeper pairs who have worked in tandem to outwit and outplay the opposition batsmen on several occasions. Here we take a look at 3 such pairs with most dismissals in ODI cricket.
#3 Shaun Pollock-Mark Boucher
The South African pair, with an aggregate of 60 dismissals (59 caught behinds and 1 stumping) in the period 1998-2008 stand 3rd in the list. The former Proteas captain Pollock has an impressive ODI tally with 393 wickets to his name. Boucher, with 402 ODI dismissals, also holds the record for most dismissals in international cricket.
The pair was instrumental in the Proteas rise as a cricketing powerhouse.
#2 Glenn McGrath-Adam Gilchrist
There is little surprise to find this pair featuring in this list. One of the best seamer of his era, combined with one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen of his era, had a total of 73 dismissals together (72 caught behinds and 1 stumping) in the period 1997-2007.
The period was when the Aussies were considered invincible, winning all three World Cups played in these ten years. McGrath finished with 381 ODI wickets and Gilchrist finished with 417 dismissals.
#1 Makhaya Ntini-Mark Boucher
The Proteas wicketkeeper features again in the list, with a bowler who shared the new ball with Shaun Pollock. The pair holds the record for the most dismissals by a bowler-wicket keeper pair. The pair had 75 dismissals (all caught behind) to their name in the period 1998-2008.
Ntini finished with a total of 266 ODI wickets and was one of the most difficult bowlers to face with his height and pace on South African wickets.
