Tim Southee and Virat Kohli share a professional relationship since their U19 days, when India, led by Virat Kohli, defeated a New Zealand side, with Tim Southee as the bowling spearhead, in the semi-finals of the 2008 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup.

They both successfully transitioned to their national sides and have made themselves an indispensable part of their respective teams with their consistent performances.

In senior ODI cricket, Tim Southee has got the better off Virat Kohli on 5 occasions, the first one being in the 6th Match (D/N) of the Sri Lanka Triangular Series at Dambulla in Aug 2010 where Kohli was caught by the wicketkeeper of Southee's bowling at a score of 8.

The latest dismissal was in the 3rd ODI (D/N) of New Zealand tour of India at Kanpur in October 2017, where Virat was caught by Kane Williamson off the bowling of Southee after scoring a marvellous 113 off 106 balls.
