This was the first time both the teams clashed against each other in a T20I game. The venue was Durban and it was the second semi-final of the inaugural World T20 that was held in South Africa in the year 2007.

Electing to bat first on a good surface, India got off to a slow start. Quick loss of wickets saw India struggling at 41-2 by the end of 8 overs.

Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh stepped up the gas and started smashing the Australian bowlers. Yuvraj smashed his way to a 30 ball 70 and cameos from Robin Uthappa (34) and MS Dhoni (36) helped India to put up a solid total of 188/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, Australia got off to a blazing start with the likes of Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden taking the attack to the Indian bowlers. Sreesanth provided the initial breakthrough by removing Adam Gilchrist but the Australians kept scoring runs at a fair clip.

The game took a drastic turn in the last 5 overs, when wickets kept tumbling and the required run-rate crept up. Sreesanth removed the dangerous Matthew Hayden for 62 in the 15th over and the game tilted into India’s side.

Joginder Sharma was given the ball to defend 22 runs from the last over, the medium pacer conceded only 6 runs and picked up 2 wickets to help India clinch the game and go through to the finals of the Inaugural T20I World cup.

While all the Indian bowlers stepped up, it was Sreesanth who was the pick of the bowlers with 2-12 in his 4 overs. However, the Man of the Match was awarded to Yuvraj Singh for his blistering 70 off 30 balls.
