A lot was expected from Dinesh Karthik in his comeback to Test cricket owing to his consistent first-class records and rich vein of form in IPL. He also had the chance of replacing Wridhimann Saha permanently in the Test squad had he played a few big knocks and improved his glove-work.

Unfortunately for Karthik, it was not to be and he failed miserably with the bat and gloves. Karthik managed just 21 runs in two matches and dropped a lot of sitters which had a drastic impact on the game for India.

With Rishabh Pant justifying his place in the XI by displaying decent wicket-keeping skills and fine performances with the bat, Karthik might have undoubtedly lost his place to Pant.
