The English skipper Eoin Morgan scored a brilliant ton against Afghanistan in the 24th Match of the tournament which allowed England to rack up a colossal 397 in their quota of 50 overs. The Englishman got to his half-century off 36 balls and then notched up his century off a mere 57 balls, thereby breaking Jos Buttler’s record of the fastest ton by an English batsman in the World Cup (which was off 75 deliveries).

The southpaw accumulated 148 runs in just 71 balls at a staggering strike rate of 208.45. Morgan managed to clear the ropes on 17 occasions in the match, making it a world record for the most number of sixes in an one-day international.

Previously the record was held jointly by AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma, for hitting 16 sixes in an ODI innings.
