Scoring 8000 runs itself is a big achievement, but scoring 8000 runs in ODI wins alone is an incredible feat. Several players who came into the limelight at the start of their career have faded away. The players who feature in this list, have shown tremendous passion and dedication towards the game and possessed the necessary skills to score tons of runs across the globe in this format of the game.

Let's have a look at the batsmen who have scored more than 8000 runs in ODI victories for their respective sides.


#5 Jacques Kallis- 8036 runs (South Africa)

The greatest all-rounder to have ever played the game, the talisman from South Africa represented them in 328 ODIs, and was a major contributor with the bat with almost every shot in his repertoire. His career spanned for 18 years from 1996 to 2014.

South Africa won 210 of the 328 games that he was a part of. During that period, he scored 8036 runs from 10621 deliveries at an average of 51.18, including 58 fifties and 13 hundreds. Also, 190 of his 273 wickets have come in a winning cause, which makes his feat even more laudable.

After his departure from International cricket, South Africa have not been able to find able replacements for him.

#4 Kumar Sangakkara- 8301 runs (Sri Lanka/Asia XI)

Kumar Sangakkara was one of the greatest batsmen to have come out of Sri Lanka. Known for his elegant stroke-play and ever reliable wicket-keeping skills, Sangakkara represented the island nation and the Asia XI side in 404 ODIs in a career spanning 15 years from 2000 to 2015. He is also one of the few batsmen who own the record of scoring 10000 runs in both ODIs and Tests.

Sangakkara contributed heavily towards his side's victories.He has scored 8301 runs from 10104 deliveries at an average of 48.54 including 54 fifties and 18 hundreds. His highest ODI score of 169 was scored when he smashed the South African bowlers all around the park at Colombo (RPS) on 20th July, 2013.

Post retirement from international cricket, Sanga represented Surrey in the English County Championship and scored heaps of runs for them.

#3 Sanath Jayasuriya - 8873 runs (Sri Lanka/Asia XI)

Well-known for his striking abilities with the bat and his useful bowling skills, Sanath Jayasuriya was a complete package for the ODI format. He featured in 445 ODIs for the island, in a career spanning 22 years, from 1989 to 2011.Opening the innings with Romesh Kaluwitharana, he got them off to rocking starts when the field restrictions were in place.

Sri Lanka won 233 of the 445 matches that he was part of. During this period, he scored 8873 runs from 9187 balls at an average of 41.26 including 43 fifties and 24 hundreds. His useful left-arm spin also earned him 323 wickets of which 222 have come in Sri Lankan wins.

Also, his exploits at the top of the order and his bowling skills helped him earn the Most Valuable Player of the tournament award during Sri Lanka's victorious World Cup campaign in 1996.

#2 Ricky Ponting- 10738 runs (Australia)

The highest run scorer for Australia in Tests and ODIs, Ricky Ponting was one of the chief contributors to Australia's dominance in world cricket in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He represented Australia in 375 ODIs in a career spanning close to 17 years from 1995 to 2012.

Known for his elegant stroke-play, Ricky Ponting was an integral member of the Australian side which lifted the World Cup in 1999, 2003 and 2007. Australia won 262 of the 375 ODIs that he was a part of.

During this period, he scored 10738 runs from 13036 balls at an average of 49.03, including 69 fifties and 25 hundreds. Also, his slip catching and close-in fielding received praise from cricketing experts all over the world.

Post retirement, he has taken up the role of mentoring budding talents across several T20 franchise teams across the world.

#1 Sachin Tendulkar- 11157 runs (India)

Arguably the greatest batsmen to have played the game, Sachin Tendulkar has broken almost every batting record possible during his stint with the Indian cricket team, which lasted for 24 years. His staggering numbers are a testimony of his hard work and his passion for the game.

The little master represented India in 463 ODIs in a career spanning across two decades. His side won 234 of the 463 games when he took the field. During this period, he scored 11157 runs from 12354 balls at an average of 56.63, including 59 fifties and 33 hundreds.

He was also a useful bowler with a bundle of tricks. His deceptive variations earned him 154 wickets in ODIs and was always the go-to man for his captains in crunch situations.
