A batsman is said to carry the bat when he, as an opener, remains not out while the rest of his 10 teammates return to the pavilion. In more than 3000 Test matches, a batsman has carried his bat 53 times. Similarly, there are only 11 instances of a batsman carrying his bat in more than 2000 ODIs.

However, in T20 Internationals, only one player has managed to carry his bat till the end of his team's innings. The player is none other than 'The Universal Boss', Chris Gayle. Chris Gayle achieved this feat in the 2nd Semi-Final of 2009 ICC World Twenty20 against Sri Lanka, after he scored 63 runs out of the 101 total runs scored by the West Indies, without getting dismissed.

Unfortunately, none of his teammates could reach double figures in that game, due to which West Indies were bundled out for just 101 runs in their innings. Sri Lanka won the match by 57 runs.
