#2 Joe Root
England's aggressive batting approach has been well documented with the fact that England has scored four of the top five totals in an innings since the 2015 World Cup. In fact, in the same period, they are the only team to have an average run rate of over 6. Joe Root serves as a perfect foil that anchors this batting line-up.
He plays the role of sheet anchor and holds up one end while others continue to play their shots in the middle overs. There were doubts around his place in the starting XI when Ben Stokes came back from injury last July.
But his twin centuries against India helped them win the series 2-1 as they became the only team to beat India in a bilateral series since Feb 2016. The way he handled the wrist spinners made the difference in that series and the hosts will be hoping for a similar play to win the World Cup.
