Australia v England - Fourth Test: Day 3

Alastair Cook is now the youngest to 8000 Test runs

Alastair Cook has become the youngest batsman of all time to make 8,000 runs in Test cricket, bettering Sachin Tendulkar‘s record by 21 days.

The 29-year-old England captain reached the milestone on the third day of the ongoing 4th Ashes Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Cook looked in fine nick today, and reached his half-century off just 60 deliveries. However, he departed soon after that, with Mitchell Johnson trapping him plumb in front of the wicket.

Cook, who celebrated his 29th birthday on this Christmas day, crossed the 8000-run barrier aged 29 years and 3 days, faster than Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved the same at the age of 29 years and 24 days.
