Shami could be playing the World Cup this year

India have been looking to lock out the slot for the third pacer in the team for a long time now. And now, with dark clouds looming over the availability of Hardik Pandya, that slot was very important to fill in.

The World Cup starts in a few months time, and it is in England, which makes keeping 3 seamers in the team more sensible than ever. In the process of finding the right seamer, the Indian team have tried the likes of Umesh Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul and Mohammed Siraj, but none have reaped the desired results for them.

In this series however, Bumrah was rested and was replaced with Mohammed Shami. They shuffled between Mohammed Siraj and Khaleel Ahmed for the third seamer's slot. When Bumrah returns, Shami might be in the forefront for sealing the spot in the XI.
