Zimbabwe batsman Vusi Sibanda has suffered from an ankle injury, a few days ahead of his country’s home series against India. The series comprising of three ODIs and two T20s will begin on the 10th of July, and the Zimbabwean players were having a warm-up session preparing for it.

The right-hander injured his right ankle after accidentally stepping on team analyst Stanley Chioza's foot. But the coach Dave Whatmore has dismissed fears that he could be ruled out of the series. He has downplayed the incident and has said that the batsman will be back in action in a week’s time.

"I took Vusi for an x-ray, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging scans and the results are expected this afternoon," Anesu Mupotaringa, the team physiotherapist, said. "He is currently in pain and I have given him a crutch to avoid pressure on the ankle. I also gave him medication to help with the pain and swelling, and he will receive treatment twice daily to speed up recovery with the hope of him being fit for the India tour."

The 31-year-old batsman returned to the squad during last month’s tour of Pakistan after being ignored for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
