Pakistan Player Ratings

England v Pakistan: Day 4 - First Test #RaiseTheBat Series
England v Pakistan: Day 4 - First Test #RaiseTheBat Series

Shan Masood: 7.5/10

The opener scored his third consecutive Test century in the first innings, with his 156 almost single-handedly propelling Pakistan to a stronghold over the match. Masood was unfortunate to be strangled down the leg-side for a blob in the second innings.

Abid Ali: 4/10

This wasn't a great outing for the opener, as he only managed scores of 16 and 20 in the two innings. Ali really should have capitalised on the starts that he got, although he was on the receiving end of a peach from Jofra Archer in the first innings. He played a poor shot in the second.

Azhar Ali: 3/10

The Pakistan captain's poor away form continued as he fell over on the flick in both innings to be trapped by Woakes plumb in front of the stumps. This is a truly appalling technical issue for a top-order batsman, and he really needs to lead from the front at the earliest.

Babar Azam: 6/10

Pakistan's limited-overs captain scored a fluent 69 in the first innings before a loose drive led to his downfall. Azam once again nicked off to the slips in the second innings, but his performances were encouraging despite not having much to show for. He is in form and will be crucial to his team's hopes in the series.

Asad Shafiq: 4.5/10

Shafiq has played gutsy overseas knocks before and was expected to shoulder the responsibility in the middle order. A tentative poke dismissed him in the first innings, before a promising knock in the second was criminally cut short by a run out. Captain Ali said after the game that there is no place for run outs in Test cricket, and he is right.

Mohammad Rizwan: 4/10

The wicket-keeper looked shaky in both innings, and failed to utilise the start he got in the second. Rizwan was fairly safe behind the stumps, though, and claimed three catches in the match.

Shadab Khan: 6.5/10

The young all-rounder scored a crucial 45 in the first innings, and chipped in with the ball with 2 wickets as well. Shadab was curiously brought into the attack very late on in both innings, and could have made more of an impact had he been given more responsibility. He dropped a dolly off Yasir's bowling as well.

Yasir Shah: 8/10

Pakistan's lead spinner was arguably their best player in this Test. With turn on offer, Yasir scalped 4 wickets in each innings and always looked threatening. He even scored a quick-fire 33 off 24 balls in the second innings to give his team a fighting score to defend on Day 4.

Mohammad Abbas: 5.5/10

Abbas was nagging with his lines and lengths, and produced an absolute peach to get rid of Ben Stokes in the first innings. His 3 wickets in the match ideally should've been more, and the 30-year-old must shine with the new ball if Pakistan are to make a comeback.

Shaheen Afridi: 5.5/10

A lot was expected of Afridi in this game, but he managed only one wicket in each innings. The left-armer did look dangerous but wasn't consistent enough to trouble the England batsmen. Pakistan will look to him to lead their pace attack in the coming Tests.

Naseem Shah: 5.5/10

The 17-year-old did produce a couple of beauties to account for 2 wickets, but didn't do much more. Naseem looked to be aggressive and bowled quick, although the end product just wasn't there. He will be keen on contributing more in the upcoming games.
