Glenn Maxwell's move to New South Wales blocked by Victoria Bushrangers

Australian star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had tried for a change of state as he wanted to move to New South Wales, but it has been blocked by Victoria Bushrangers. The Victoria-based Cricket team decided to enforce Maxwell’s Cricket Australia contract in the last minute.

The 27-years-old expressed his willingness for a potential move to New South Wales during Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka, according to reports by ESPN.

According to the norms of Cricket Australia contract, a player needs to nominate the name of the allegiant Cricket team by July 1 or else will remain with the team which he represented the season before for the entire forthcoming season. Maxwell’s request was made 6 weeks late due to which his move has been blocked.

A move still could have taken place if both the states agreed to it, which was not the situation for Maxwell. "Glenn is an integral member of the Bushrangers squad," said a Victoria Bushrangers spokesperson.

“We'll be working closely with Glenn this season to help him achieve his targets and ensure he is operating at a level to be consistently in contention for Australian selection,” he further added.

Reportedly, New South Wales were keen on the player’s move at first but the Blues decided to not pursue him as Victoria were not letting him go. However, the failed move remains a vexed question for Andrew McDonald’s team ahead of the Matador Cup and the Shield matches.

The right-hand batsman regained some of his former self in Sri Lanka after scoring the second-highest T20 international century. Australia dominated the match with a comfortable 85-run win over Sri Lanka.

Responding to his recent struggling form Maxwell said, “West Indies was pretty disappointing.” “I felt like I was a bit out of luck there. I just couldn't get a break through that. To not be on the Sri Lanka Test tour probably hurt more than anything. I understood why they dropped me.

“I had no issues with that. And my scores were quite pitiful, by my standards, for the Australia A team. I think I scored more in this innings than in all my A team innings put together,” he added.

Following his form in the Sheffield Shield, the all-rounder is confident of his selection in the test squad. “I wouldn't want to be pigeonholed as a subcontinent specialist because I know how difficult it is here. All my red-ball runs have been made in either England or Australia. On the back of that I'd like to be picked in Australia,” said Maxwell.

Victoria Bushrangers will begin their Matador Cup against South Australia on October 5.
