The Great Khali meets Harbhajan Singh, agrees to face him on the field
Harbhajan Singh has spearheaded India to many memorable wins with the ball and is the most successful off-spinner to have played for the country. He lives an active life off the field as well, often interacting with Bollywood stars and the who’s who of the film industry.
Married to actress Geeta Basra last year, Harbhajan, who hasn’t played much of international cricket lately, has been handling his business ventures. He endorses Bhajji Sports, an apparel company that is owned by his mother that provides jerseys and equipment to six Ranji trophy teams.
He recently met The Great Khali, the former WWE superstar who hails from Himachal Pradesh and became a professional wrestler in the US. Harbhajan is an active user of social media sites, and took to Twitter to post pictures of his meeting with the former heavyweight champion. The meeting took place at Harbhajan’s house in Jalandhar, Punjab.
He posted pictures of him autographing a bat and presenting it to Khali as a gift. Harbhajan also joked about how Khali agreed to face him on the field, but Harbhajan refused to return the favour in the wrestling ring. Khali posed with Harbhajan and his family after the meeting. Harbhajan tweeted: “Lovely meeting with @GreatKhali at my house..shared some funny stories #massivefella#simpleguy# @WWE“.
The Great Khali also took to twitter to post a picture with Harbhajan, tweeting “I met #Harbhajan Singh today in Jalandhar. He is a as amazing person as the #Bowler he is..“ Khali has opened his own wrestling school in Punjab, with the name Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE). The first event of the school was held in December last year. Incidentally, the school is based in Jalandhar, which happens to be Harbhajan’s hometown too.
Khali sustained head injuries in February this year, but came back four days later to win a wrestling bout as part of the “Great Khali Returns” series, trouncing three foreign opponents in his return fight.
Harbhajan Singh was an integral part of the Mumbai Indians for this edition of the Indian Premier League, picking up nine wickets from 14 matches for the franchise. He last played for the national side in a T20 in March this year. Harbhajan had also endorsed a reality entertainment show based on wrestling named “Ring ka King” on a popular TV channel a few years ago, and also featured in a few episodes.
