ICC T20I Rankings: Colin Munro, Ish Sodhi claim top spot

Munro's record-breaking exploits against West Indies helped him to a career-best No.1 ranking

Colin Munro and Ish Sodhi became the second New Zealand pair to top the T20I batting and bowling rankings at the same time. Munro jumped 11 places to top the batsmen's rankings after his record-breaking exploits against West Indies while Ish Sodhi went from 10th to top of the T20I bowlers rankings. Courtesy of their meteoric rise, India duo of KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah both dropped down a spot.

Brendon McCullum were the first Kiwi pair to achieve this feat and have done it twice (2009 and 2010). In the first update of 2018, the Kiwi duo catapulted themselves to the top of the T20I rankings. Munro finished with the record for most runs in a bilateral T20I series as he scored 223, which included a century and two fifties and became the first player to score three T20I centuries. That helped him get to a career-best position of No.1.

His record of scoring at least a fifty in each match of the T20I series helped him gain 137 points to climb from 12th spot to No.1. In the process, teammates Kane Williamson slipped to seventh (down two spots), Martin Guptill dropped out of the top ten and currently occupies 11th spot.

Munro now leads second-placed Aaron Finch by nine points and is 17 ahead of Virat Kohli, who remained in third spot. Evin Lewis moved down two spots to No.4 while KL Rahul rounds off the top five.

In the bowlers rankings, Ish Sodhi replaced Imad Wasim at the top of the bowlers rankings. Rashid Khan and Jasprit Bumrah both dropped down a spot to occupy third and fourth place. Sodhi's partner-in-crime Mitchell Santner also moved up six spots to take the fifth spot in the latest update.

New Zealand's new ball pair of Trent Boult and Tim Southee also made huge strides in the bowlers rankings as they moved up to 13th and 70th, up four and 11 places respectively.

Courtesy of their 2-0 victory, New Zealand claimed top spot in the ICC T20I Team Rankings, overtaking Pakistan. They went into the series in thirs place, four points behind Pakistan and one behind second-placed India but finished it two points ahead of Pakistan and five in front of India.
