Before the much-awaited India vs West Indies second semi-final in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2016, the West Indies women’s team took to the field in the second semi-final of the ICC Women's World T20 2016, to take on New Zeland at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. West Indies won the match by 6 runs and will face Australia at Eden Gardens in the all important final.

Britney Cooper helps West Indies put up a big score

New Zealand captain Suzie Bates won the toss and elected to field first. West Indies opened their innings with Hayley Mathews and captain Stafanie Taylor and were off to a brisk start. Britney Cooper shaped the innings with a superb knock of 61 of just 48 balls which included five fours and two huge sixes. It was mainly due to her heroics that the Caribbean side posted a good total of 143 in their scheduled quota of 20 overs.

For New Zealand, it was a disappointing performance with the ball. Apart from Sophie Devine none of the bowlers looked threatening.

Devine was brilliant with her right-arm medium pace bowling as she picked up four wickets in her four overs. Morna Nielsen picked up a wicket and was pretty economical as she gave away only 14 runs in her four overs.

In reply, New Zealand endured an early setback in the form of their wicket-keeper batsman Rachel Priest. Sophie Devine was looking good with the bat as well but was run-out by Deandra Dottin.

After that, Sara McGlashan and Amy Satterthwaite formed a superb partnership and steadied the ship from a spot of bother at 49/3. After a superb 59 run partnership, Satterthwaite got out on 24 soon followed by McGlashan, who played an excellent innings of 38 of 30 balls. After that rest of the New Zealand batting line-up panicked under pressure. In the end, New Zealand falls 7 runs short of their target.

Stafanie Taylor led from the front with ball

West Indies bowlers delivered under pressure. Captain Stafanie Taylor led from the front as she picked up three important wickets and gave away only 26 runs. Apart from her Shamilia Connell, Afy Fletcher, and Shaquana Quintyne picked up a wicket each. West Indies were good in the field as well as the held on to the catches well and also effected a run out.

Brief Scores – West Indies Women 143/6 (Cooper 61, Taylor 25; Devine 4/22, Nielsen 1/14) defeated New Zealand Women by 6 runs New Zealand Women 137/8 (McGlashan 38, Satterthwaite 24; Taylor 3/26, Quintyne 1/11)
