ICC World T20 2016: India vs West Indies - Player Ratings

Simmons rode his luck but was instrumental in the win

West Indies proved once again why they are the most powerful team in this tournament. They chased down the target of 192 with ease in the end, after Lendl Simmons and Johnson Charles displayed brute hitting prowess. Andre Russell too was brilliant in the end and he smacked the ball all over.

Virat Kohli continued his sublime form and was once again instrumental in the Indian innings as he played a sublime knock of 89. Rohit Sharma too provided a quick start to the proceedings with a quick fire 43. Ajinkya Rahane coming in place of Shikhar Dhawan played his part but then he was touch on the slower side.

India were not very good with their bowling and Lendl Simmons won two reprieves off no-balls. He batted through and saw his side home. West Indies will now lock horns with England in the Finals at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

Here are the player ratings for today’s match.

India:

Rohit Sharma- 7/10

After a lean tournament Rohit Sharma found some good form on his home surface and he stroked his way to 43 runs off 31 balls. He was at his sublime best as he timed his strokes to perfection. He however perished at a crucial stage, and his departure applied brakes to the score.

Ajinkya Rahane- 5/10

Stepping in place of Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane was at his usual self rotating strikes and taking singles and hitting that crucial boudaries. He however could have pushed on harder considering the surface and the outfield. He scored a 35-ball 40, and he might have done better in the end.

Virat Kohli- 9/10

The run machine continued on his merry way and after a rather jittery start where he could have been run-out twice, Kohli was into his work and paced his innings beautifully. he ran between the wickets like a train and found the final kick towards the end. He amassed a 47-ball 89.

With the ball, Kohli was not behind and he struck with his first ball to get rid of a dangerous Johnson Charles.

MS Dhoni- 7/10

With Dhoni one expects strong finishes but he could not quite going today and just managed a 9 ball 15 with only a solitary boundary. He was however spot on with his bowling changes and his move to introduce Jasprit Bumrah to Gayle was a move which yielded desired results.

Suresh Raina- n.a.

Manish Pandey- n.a

Hardik Pandya- 1/10

After his over against Bangladesh, much was expected of the young man from Baroda, but he disappointed big time. He was constantly on the shorter side and was taken to the cleaners. To make matters worse he overstepped when Lendl Simmons was caught in the covers. A very poor day in the office indeed.

Ravindra Jadeja- 2/10

Perhaps he was impeded by the dew kicking in, but one expects much better from Jadeja and he did not have no control over his bowling. He was looted for 48 runs off 4 overs and was never in the game. He bowled balls in the hitting arc and the penultimate over that almost sealed the deal for the hosts.

Ravichandran Ashwin- 1/10

A day to forget for India’s lead spinner as he was rendered ineffective on a surface that offered no turn and he could not muster a dominating performance. Such was his ineffectiveness that he was only used for 2 overs in which he was tkaen apart and gave away 20 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah- 8/10

The biggest find of the season so far, Bumrah got India the big wicket of Chris Gayle when he bowled him with a in swinging full ball that took the off-stump. He was briliiant in the latter overs too and with his variations befuddled the batsmen regulalry.

Ashish Nehra- 7/10

The veteran has been a banker for MS Dhoni and was briiliant today on the pressure day too. He was tight and was also frugal as he was gave away just 24 off his 4 overs.

West Indies:

Johnson Charles- 8/10

The big hitting opener was not at all hassled by the early loss of Chris Gayle and continued finding the boundaries and even cleared the boundaries with ease. He never let the run rate get too steep and was calm and calculated. He ended up with 52 off 36 balls.

Chris Gayle- 1/10

Much was epected of Chirs Gayle and he was indentified as the biggest threat to India. After one boundary in the first over, Gayle was bolwed by an absolute beauty by Jasprit Bumrah. He did not help his cause by being stuck to the crease and trying to drive on the up.

Marlon Samuels- 1/10

Another man from Jamaica, Marlon Samuels never looked comfortable during his stay barring a pleasing drive. He backed away and tried to lauch the ball but was fooled by the change in pace by Ashish Nehra.

Lendl Simmons- 10/10

Coming in as a late replacement for the injured Andre Fletcher, Simmons put his knowledge of the local conditions to great use as he played the match-winning knock to take his team into the final. He was however lucky as he was dismissed twice off no-balls and another catch at the boundary was declared to be six. No credit however should be taken away from him fo keeping calm right through.

Andre Russell- 7/10

The big-hitting all-rounder displayed brute strength towards the end as he smashed a 20 ball 43 to oust India. He was very strong straight down the ground and over cow corner as he hit 4 sixes and 3 boundaries.

With the ball too he picked up the vital wicket of Ajinkya Rahane and also found yorkers towards the end.

Denesh Ramdin- n.a

Dwayne Bravo- 2/10

With all the variations in his armoury, Dwayne Bravo could not put in an inspired performace and was taken for 44 runs in his 4 overs. He did not come into bat.

Darren Sammy- 3/10

He has not bowled or batted with any conviction and today was no different. He however was inspirational in the field and all these points are because of his captaincy.

Carlos Brathwaite- 2/10

He was not very good with his bowling and went for 38 runs in his 4 overs without any success.

Samuel Badree- 7/10

He once again opened the bowling and was tight as usual. He only went for 26 in his four overs and also got the massive wicket of Rohit Sharma.

Suleiman Benn- 2/10

The big left arm spinner could not have any impact on a flat pitch and was taken for plenty in his four overs in which he conceded 36 runs.
