India A squads to tour Australia announced; Robin Uthappa and Manoj Tiwary appointed as captains

Robin Uthappa to lead India A in a quadrangular ODI tournament in Australia

Karnataka opener Robin Uthappa has been named as the captain of one of the two India A teams to tour Australia. While he has also been included in the squad for the two 4-day matches against Australia A, Bengal middle order batsman Manoj Tiwary will lead the side.

Following the four-day fixtures to be played at Queensland, South Africa A and Cricket Australia's National Performance Squad will join the two sides to compete in a quadrangular ODI series.

Karnataka’s clean sweep of the domestic season, where the team won the Ranji, Irani and Vijay Hazare trophies, has had an effect in the team selection with 4 of their top order batsmen – Uthappa, KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Manish Pandey – making the cut.

Other notable performers in the domestic and IPL circuit - Rishi Dhawan, Dhawal Kulkarni, Sanju Samson, Sandeep Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah - have been rewarded with a spot in the teams, too, while Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag’s performances in the just concluded Indian Premier League have gone unnoticed. It seems like their age is being held up against them and one wonders about the road that lies ahead for the duo.

Apart from Uthappa and Tiwary, Dhawal Kulkarni and Ambati Rayudu are the other players to feature in both the squads.
