The Indian cricket team created history by defeating Australia in their own backyard for the first time ever. By doing so, they became the first visiting team to win a Test and ODI series down under. They achieved this feat by defeating Australia by 7 wickets in the final ODI of the three-match series held at the MCG in Melbourne.

Chasing 231 for victory, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, and Virat Kohli led the way for India as they achieved the historic victory. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up six wickets for just 42 runs in his ten overs.

Earlier, India had lost the first ODI at Sydney before bouncing back to win the 2nd ODI at Adelaide.

With the ODI series win in Australia, India have now defeated all countries, excluding Afghanistan, in a bilateral ODI series on their own soil. They are yet to face Afghanistan in an ODI series altogether.

Apart from India, Pakistan, South Africa, Australia, and England, have achieved this feat as well.

India achieved their first ODI series victory away from home against England in 1990, where they won the two-match ODI series 2-0. Mohammad Azharuddin and Sanjay Manjrekar were the stars of that series as they scored two half-centuries each to lead India to victory.

A couple of years later, they defeated Zimbabwe in a one-off ODI encounter in Zimbabwe. It was in the 1998-99 season where they achieved their first proper series victory in Zimbabwe, defeating them 2-1.

The Men in Blue then went on to defeat West Indies in the ODI series away from home in 2002 as they won the series 2-1. And, a few years later, they defeated Pakistan in a thrilling five-match series away from home in the summer of 2004. They defeated Pakistan in Pakistan once again in 2006. Meanwhile, their first ODI series victory against Bangladesh away from home came in 2004.

They achieved their first series victory against Sri Lanka in 2008 away from home, winning the six-match ODI series 3-2 where MS Dhoni was the man of the tournament. A year later, they achieved their first ODI series victory against New Zealand in New Zealand.

India's second ODI series victory against England came in 2014, where they defeated the hosts 3-1 in the five-match ODI series. Suresh Raina was awarded the man of the tournament award in that series.

The Men in Blue had to wait until the beginning of 2018 to achieve their first series win against South Africa in South Africa as they thrashed the Proteas 5-1.

And finally, they created history today by defeating Australia in their own backyard.
