The fast bowling option
Since the Sydney wicket is expected to be a slow wicket, there is no necessity for India to go in with a fourth seamer either in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Umesh Yadav. Umesh Yadav flatter to deceive at Perth and Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not played a single Test match since January’18. Besides, that option would further lengthen the Indian tail. Hence this option is ruled out for Team India.
The Spinners
The Indians have two spinners in the squad in Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav who would be ideal bowlers for the Sydney wicket. Out of two, Ashwin, if declared fit, would be the best choice to replace Rohit Sharma. Ashwin took 6 wickets in the Adelaide Test against the Australian batting line-up packed with left-handers.
Besides, Ashiwn is a more than useful late-order batsman. Hence the best choice would be to bring back Ravichandran Ashwin into the team to fill in the void created by Rohit Sharma’s absence. If Ashwin is not fit, then the next better choice would be the mystery wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav.
