The first ODI between India and Australia was held in Hyderabad and India managed to snatch the win despite reeling at 99/4 in a small chase, thanks to a match-winning partnership between Kedar Jadhav and Dhoni.

Australia will look to bounce back in the 2nd ODI in Nagpur, where they elected to bowl first in the contest.

India wanted to bat first, and hence there is no impact of the toss for the hosts either. India went with an unchanged XI and Rohit and Dhawan walked in to open the innings. It was a good opportunity for the openers to make the most use of the batting conditions and put pressure on the visitors.

Rohit played the first ball cautiously. Pat Cummins bowled a bouncer on the sixth ball, which tempted Rohit to try an upper cut, and eventually, he ended up getting caught at third man. The Indian vice-captain was not happy with himself for playing such a rash shot early in the innings.

With Rohit Sharma getting out for a duck, he registered an unwanted record against his name as it represented the first time Rohit Sharma got out for a duck at home in ODI history. Before today, he had played 54 innings in India and scored 2934 runs, including 9 centuries. This is also his first duck in the previous 12 months in the 50-overs format.

In total, Rohit Sharma has recorded 13 ducks in ODIs. In Sri Lanka, he has record five ducks, which is most for him in a country.

The Indian vice-captain is yet to make a mark in this series. He failed in the first T20I, and scored 37 runs in the first ODI. There are three more ODIs left for India, and he can use this opportunity to get back in touch before the 2019 World Cup.
