Karunaratne has a rather unique pattern of scoring in Test cricket. He averages 39.69 and 43.00 in the third and fourth innings of Test matches, where most batsmen struggle to get it up to 35. This includes four centuries and eight half-centuries. In contrast to this, his second innings average is below 20, surprising given the immense success he has had in the third and fourth innings'.
