India vs Sri Lanka, 2017: How the Indian squad fared in the ODI series

Rohit was unstoppable during his unbeaten knock of 208

India won the decider match against Sri Lanka by 8 wickets, and clinched the series by 2-1. After suffering an embarrassing loss in the first match, India fought back strongly in Mohali and Visakhapatnam to win the series.

India's top order looked in sublime form, whereas the middle order batsmen struggled to score runs when there was an opportunity to do so in the first match. In the bowling department, spin was its best, and fast bowlers did a decent job in the series.

Here is how each Indian player fared in this series.

Rohit Sharma: 8/10

Rohit Sharma scored the most number of runs in the series. Apart from the second match, he did not trouble the scoreboard in the remaining matches.

He scored 217 runs at an average of 108.5 with 1 double century to his name. In terms of captaincy, he showed fighting character in the series, trailing by 1-0. He was also proactive with bowling changes and field settings. In his debut series as captain, he won the series 2-1.

Shikhar Dhawan: 9/10

Though he was off-color in the first match, Dhawan made up for it and scored 68 runs in the second match, and blazing century in the decider match. He scored 168 runs in 3 matches and looked in supreme touch. He was also presented with the Man of the Series award for his consistent performance.

Shreyas Iyer: 8.5/10

One of the biggest positives from the series was the emergence of Shreyas Iyer. He failed to impress in the first match, but after getting another opportunity, he grabbed it with both hands and scored a blazing knock of 88 runs in the second match. He even went on to score another handy half-century in the third match. Overall he scored 162 runs at an average of 54, with 2 half-centuries and is one of the strong contenders at no 4 in the middle order.

MS Dhoni: 8/10

If someone stood valiantly in the first match, it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who single-handedly fought against Lankan bowling attack, and scored 65 runs in the first match. He scored 6 runs in the second match and did not get a batting opportunity in the third match. His wicket keeping skills were as good as ever, and he never looked in trouble.

Manish Pandey: 2/10

Manish Pandey has been one of the biggest disappointments of the series, as he was expected to play a crucial knock at Dharamshala with the kind of talent he possesses. In the absence of Kedar Jadhav, Pandey missed the golden opportunity to cement his place in the batting order. He should be itching to perform at whatever opportunity is thrown at him.

Dinesh Karthik: 4/10

Karthik also failed to impress in the middle order after scoring a duck in the first match. He did not get an opportunity in the second, but in the third he scored 26 not out and finished the game.

Going ahead, Karthik would also like to make most of his opportunities count, and score big runs in the middle order.

Hardik Pandya: 5/10

After coming back from injury, Pandya was not impressive, either with the ball or bat. Though he picked up 2 wickets in the third match, he was very expensive in the first spell, where Tharanga thrashed him for five boundaries in an over.

Also with the bat, he failed to perform especially in the first match, where a gritty knock was expected from him. He would like to improve in the next series with his all-round abilities.

Washington Sundar: 6/10

Another debutant in this series, Sundar was drafted in the second match in place of Kuldeep Yadav. Sundar did not get any opportunity with the bat, but with the ball he was impressive, picking up the lone wicket of Thirimanne. He was again absent from the decider due to fever.

Kuldeep Yadav: 9.5/10

Kuldeep made most of the opportunity he got in the series. In the first match, he didn't get to bowl even one over, but he supported with bat scoring 19 runs.

After getting dropped in the second, he came back strongly in the decider match picking up 3 crucial wickets. He was the trump card for India and rattled the Sri Lankan top-order. He was also awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant performance.

Yuzvendra Chahal: 9.5/10

Yuzvendra Chahal was without a doubt the best bowler in the series. Chahal did not get to bowl in the first match, but made the most of his opportunity in the remaining matches. He picked up 6 wickets in the series, with 3 wickets each in both matches. He broke the back of the middle-order batting in the decider, where at one stage Sri Lanka were cruising to a big score.

Jasprit Bumrah: 6/10

Bumrah had a decent outing in the series picking up 4 wickets in 3 matches. The no-ball came back to haunt Bumrah in the first match, where he had picked the scalp of Tharanga. Going into next series against South Africa, he would like to rectify the no-ball dilemma and take plenty of wickets.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 5/10

Bhuvneshwar was far from his best in this series, after coming off the break in the two last Test matches against Sri Lanka. Overall he picked up 3 wickets in 3 matches, and would like to step up in the next series in South Africa, where seam bowling would be more effective.
