India and West Indies have never before met in a Twenty20 International (T20I) hosted by India.

The teams have contested three World T20 matches, with West Indies getting the better of India by a slender two-one margin. Their inaugural World T20 match at Lord's was won by West Indies, who went on to beat India in the following addition of the tournament at home in 2010, before finally letting up in Dhaka in 2014. The only match part of a bilateral arrangement was won by India in Port of Spain by 16 runs, squaring off the overall T20I record -- two apiece.
