An inspired India came into the 2000 ICC Knockout Trophy semifinal against South Africa brimming with confidence after inflicting a 20-run loss to Australia.
Batting first, Sourav Ganguly led the way for his side, combining very well, first with Sachin Tendulkar then with Rahul Dravid, en route to scoring 141 and help India post a competitive 295 runs on the board.
In reply, South Africa were dented early by Zaheer Khan and co. and as they reduced the Proteas to 50 for 4.
Jonty Rhodes and the rest of the middle-order tried to keep their side in the contest, but in the end, it did not prove to be enough and India won by a 95-run margin to march their way into the final.
