IPL Results 2016: Scores, Updated Points Table and Fixture Schedule on April 18

After two thrilling games yesterday where the Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevil’s came out on top. Today sees the match up between the champions Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad who are looking for their first win the season. Mumbai, as always have started off slowly, winning just one game of the three they have played. Sunrisers have had a terrible start themselves losing both the games to RCB and KKR respectively. Mumbai and Hyderabad will both try to get a win under their belts as wins at the start of the tournament will matter as they get to the business end of the tournament.

Mumbai have a strong team and Martin Guptill will feature in his first IPL game as Pollard is unfit for the game. Having lost to the Rising Pune Supergiant’s and Gujarat Lions, Mumbai will have to pick up their performances if they want to retain their title or even make it to the Qualifiers. Mumbai do always bring their A-game during the business end of the tournament, but they cannot rely on performances to pick up towards the end each and every time.

Sunrisers Hyderabad on the other hand, will look to find their first win after being comprehensively beaten by KKR in the last game by eight wickets. The Hyderabad franchise has a good mix of Indian and foreign players in their ranks but are unable to fire as team. Other than Warner, Dhawan, Morgan and Henriques their batting line up looks shaky at the best without the experienced Yuvraj and the younger Indian batsmen have been unable to come up with the goods. They do have a great bowling line up even though Nehra is out injured, with young Mustafizur, who has grown by leaps and bounds over the last year and Bhuvi spearheading the bowling unit.

Mumbai Indians Innings

SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first. After being put into bat first Mumbai got off to a terrible start losing Guptill on the third ball of his IPL debut. The next man to depart was Parthiv Patel, outfoxed by a slower one by Saran. The MI captain Rohit Sharma had a short stay at the crease too, run out after being sent back by Ambati Rayudu, while trying to steal a tight single. Ambati Rayudu top scored with 54 and got out while trying to cut the ball through point. Krunal Pandya played a gem of an innings scoring 49 of 28 delivers with three sizes and fours each. Mumbai Indian ended with 142/6 at the end of their 20 overs despite starting poorly riding of brilliant knocks by Rayudu and Pandya.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings

SRH started of brilliantly with some big hitting by Warner despite losing Dhawan early to a peach of a delivery by Southee which uprooted the middle stump. Warner and Henriques put up a good partnership and then towards the end of the innings Hooda ably partnered Warner to take the Sunrisers through to their first win on the tournament riding on an amazing batting performance by Warner who scored 90 of just 59 balls.

Dhawan put up a lacklustre performance again going for just two, but Warner shepherded his team through with a captain’s knock. This win has taken SRH to the 6th place above Mumbai Indians who crashed to their third loss.

This win for the Sunrisers over the Mumbai Indians should give them the much needed confidence and set the tone for the rest of the season as they look to put up better performances and improve their season.
